Victory for NC Farmworkers! "Prevent Agricultural Pesticide Exposure", or
S 847, has passed the Senate, and is now headed to the Governor's desk for his signature. As a result, farmworkers gain an important basic workplace protection that they sincerely deserve.
S 847 will: Prohibit retaliation (i.e. firing or wage cuts) against farmworkers who report pesticide safety problems on the job; and require improved pesticide record-keeping by employers.
The state budget also included $357,055 to improve pesticide safety programs. Please take a moment to thank the key players on this legislation at Toxic Free NC's website.

“With its innovative farm-to-school programs and its investments in the local food infrastructure, Anderson County is a role model for the Southeast,” said McReynolds. “CFSA is working to help other Carolina communities make that same commitment to sustainable agriculture, which is a food and farming system that is good for the farmer, good for the consumer, and good for the land.”
Locavores just finished eating ONLY Carolina produced food last week for CFSA's, "Eat Carolina Food Challenge". We'll review their food logs and announce the winner on September 1, 2008.
